camera obscura

cabinet for photo equipment, 2017

a symbol of the art of photography

inspired by elements of photography, contrast, light and shadow, gunther pfeffer created a storage space for photographic utensils. his own motivation and prerequisite for this design was to translate this deep engagement with the subject of photography and storage into an ideal form.

fine detail

the black, deep matt body made of a robust sheet material refers to the first camera. the camera obscura, which translates from latin as “dark chamber”. the very light and soft fir wood contrasts with this. the dark body rises up, supported by four finely folded feet. it is asymmetrically recessed at the front.

a three-dimensional diamond relief is located here. this consists of approx. 400 triangles made of solid wood, which were individually formatted and then assembled to form a surface. the contrast between light and shadow and the dynamic cast of shadows depending on the viewing angle make the relief a reference to the photograph. the regular, crystalline structure made of solid wood has a very sensual expression and always catches the eye.
